Let’s talk about bouncing back up from feeling bad to feeling good (a.k.a. being in alignment).
Recently, I got ticked off because someone really important to me said something that stung a little. Predictably, this disturbed my vibe. And who likes it when that happens?
I’m very self-aware with the kind of vibe that I’m surrounding myself with, and the slightest disturbance in my energy would have to be dealt with ASAP. This is because I’m well aware of how the level of my energy will affect my future reality.
But here’s the thing though: you can never fully stay away from these scenarios. It’s so easy to enter negativity because life happens. Some people can trigger you easily, your work can leave you stressed and exhausted, social media can cause you to feel FOMO, jealous and envious, some days mornings can turn out bad, PMS can make you extremely sensitive, and mercury could be in retrograde.
Yes. Feeling down is normal and human. And no matter how hard you try to force yourself to be positive 100 percent of the time, bad emotions can happen to you whether you like it or not.
But to become a strong magnet to your dreams requires you to always be in a high-vibe state. So what to do when you feel bad? Here are some of the things I do to bounce back from feeling bad to feeling good that could help you as well:
Feel and release your negative feelings.
One of the misconceptions about manifesting is that you should never feel bad, and instead, you should always force positivity. This reminds me of those moments when I felt so down and I’d force affirmations in my head, and then I’d be frustrated because they weren’t working. This would lead me to think that I just really suck at manifesting and that I should give up altogether (thankfully, I didn’t).
The reality is that forcing positivity seldom works. Most of the time, it leaves you feeling drained and you’d end up resenting the manifestation process.
Here’s a wiser solution: feel your feelings for a short period of time (maybe an hour to a few days, depending on how severe your case is), and release it in a good way.
How you’ll release it will depend on you. For me, it meant doing a day of ugly-crying, journaling, meditation, punching the bed or the wall, cussing my heart out, doing some forgiveness exercises, wrestling a pillow and/or general cleaning my home. If it really bothered me big time, I’ll talk about it with my husband or a reliable friend. Try anything that works for you.
Saying releasing mantras like “I choose to let go of the pain/negativity in my heart right now.” or “I release negativity and hold joy in my heart.” also works too.
Feeling bad is okay, as long as you immediately get back up to prevent yourself from attracting the bad stuff.
Go outside and absorb the sky.
This always works like a charm. Whenever I feel down and my earth-self is taking over in full-mode, I’d simply go out and look at the sky for long moments. I’d breathe deeply – as if absorbing the vastness of the universe. Doing this reminds me that there are millions of galaxies beyond those clouds, and that I’m only this little piece of being. It also reminds me of the limitless possibilities that are available for me out there and proves that taking everything so heavily is only the work of my head, and that it can be changed.
Figure out what the problem is, and deal with it.
A lot of times, I’d suddenly feel annoyed at everyone and have no freaking idea why. Have you ever experienced that too? Feeling down and not knowing what ticked you off?
Whenever this happens, the action to take is to figure out what’s happening and deal with it.
Journaling will help you do this. Get a notebook and a pen and start letting your heart out. For me, I’d start with writing random words like, “Okay, so, I’m feeling a little bad vibe today. What is up? I feel…” and as I let the words flow, the problem will eventually reveal itself.
Sometimes, it will be revealed to me that my cognitive fuel just drained off because of being exposed to too much negativity on social media. Or that I’m not working in my zone of genius. Sometimes, it’s simply a bad morning. Sometimes, it’s being surrounded by difficult people. Sometimes, it’s from watching a disturbing documentary last night. And sometimes, it’s some major life decisions that I had to deal with, like letting go of difficult relationships or moving to another location.
Once you get clear about this information, you can start solving it. If it’s something you can’t control, accept it, let it go, surrender it to the universe, and move forward. Reflecting on it can also help you unlock a valuable lesson that the universe is trying to teach you.
If it’s something you can control, then face it and fix it.
Have a media detox to reconnect within.
Too much time spent on absorbing outside media, especially social media, lowers our vibrations in many ways – it uses up our cognitive fuel in a short span of time leaving us feeling exhausted, it causes us to focus on other people’s success instead of ours (which often leads us to feel ungrateful, jealous, and unworthy, and creates this pressure to get ahead of everyone – all just illusions in my opinion), it causes us to be exposed to negativity, and it causes us to rely on outside validation (likes and comments) to feel good about ourselves.
Don’t get me wrong. I love social media and the benefits we get from it. It’s the addiction and mindless scrolling that I’m concerned about. And it saddens me deeply that a lot of people are feeling depressed because of the unhealthy use of it.
I used to have a social media addiction and it was ruining my happiness for a long time. But 2 years ago, I decided to really get serious about achieving peace and happiness, and took my power back from social media. I’m Facebook sober for almost 2 years now (except when I had to open it for work purposes) and I only use Instagram for the sole purpose of reaching my audience and documenting important memories, not to mindlessly scroll and waste time. And tell you what, real-life connections are a hundred times better than online. (That awkward silence when you’re with someone actually forces you to be creative and make witty jokes on the spot – charisma skill level boost.)
Although sometimes, I still slip into the pool of mindless scrolling on Instagram especially when I’m accessing the app for work. When this happens, I’d do a complete social media detox for days to weeks. And it always brings me back to this Media-less Nirvana. I don’t even hold my phone at times and it would feel amazing. I believe that consuming too much outside noise causes disconnection to our voice within, and when that happens, we feel misaligned. And that’s what’s causing your low vibe.
Meditation is one of my most favorite things in the world. It’s simple and it’s effective. It’s the reason why I was able to think clearly, hear my higher voice loudly, relieve my stress, and be the master of myself.
What we feed our minds are very important because it will result in how we will perceive the outside world. If we feed it garbage, you will perceive and attract more garbage. If you feed it with the good stuff, you’ll perceive and attract more of goodness. That’s why meditation helps big time to help you clear your mind of any thoughts – especially unwanted and negative ones.
Meditation brings you back in control. It allows you to be aware of what’s really happening, and it will be easier for you to lead your mind to a better thought.
Declutter your space.
Decluttering, in the manifestation world, simply means removing the bad energy so you can welcome the good energy. A squeaky clean home makes you feel good and raise your vibration instantly. A clear mind will create space for more positive thoughts to enter. A clear heart can create space for good feelings.
Exercise or Do some Yoga.
Of course, you’ll find exercise on this list! It works and it never fails. A 30-minute workout can boost your energy and happiness levels instantly (thank you endorphins).
Sometimes, exercise can feel like a total drag, though. If you can’t be bothered to do a long work out, try the minimum amount you can.
For me, my best fitness investment ever is my yoga mat. In the past, I would find it so hard to stand up, put on work out clothes and go to the jogging park, so my yoga mat helps me get the job done. Pushing myself a little to stand up, set up my yoga mat, and start my yoga sesh with Adriene, or some 7-minute workout is the only challenge I had to face, and so far, most of the time I was able to overcome it, knowing that these few minutes can change the course of my entire day. Feel free to do the absolute minimum, and appreciate yourself for trying.
The key to loving exercise is to find something that works for you and makes you feel good.
Fill your mind with so much positivity.
Negativity is all around us, that’s why it’s always handy to have something that reminds you – or bombards you rather – of all the positivity out there, because a counter-attack is necessary. It could be a file of lists of all the beautiful things in life. It could be an album on your phone. It could be a box full of good stuff.
Don’t know how to keep your vibe high at all times? I created a manifestation planner that could help you stay in the space of Love and Alignment every day. Check this out!
Eat something yummy and healthy.
I’m gonna be honest here: I still struggle with eating healthy food (working on it – 2019 focus). But, I know for a fact that whenever I eat something leafy, raw and unprocessed, it always makes me feel energetic, refreshed, light and clean. So go grab some yummy healthy food.
Read a high vibe book.
A book that will immediately uplift your spirit and make life look and feel lovelier.
Have some sleep.
Sometimes you’re just really really tired, babe. Negativity is draining. Go to bed and recharge.
Have a pamper day.
Massages, essential oils, hot tubs, oxytocin boost – need I say more?
Create these four lists.
Sometimes you feel bad simply because you’re focused on the bad stuff – you know, how something went wrong, how so and so is such a bitch, how poor you are, how much you suck, how your career is doomed.
But focusing on these stuff is not only making your vibrational frequency low, but it also leaves you demotivated and demoralized. Writing a gratitude list, an abundance list and a progress list every day remind me about all the good stuff that surrounds me and puts me in this space of gratitude, positivity, and abundance.
Have some water.
The high vibrations of water will instantly bring up your frequency level. Go for a swim (beach water is best but pool water can do wonders too), take a cold energizing bath (or a hot and relaxing bath), drink crystal-charged water, or simply splash it on your face.
Sing & Dance
A mini party for one can be a fun thing to do and it will definitely boost your mood.
Work on your zone of genius/purpose project.
Maybe you’re feeling low because you’re not doing what truly matters to you. If this is the case, take this as the universe’s message for you to figure it out now (if you still haven’t) and start incorporating it into your life a little at a time, until you can do it full-time.
Do something new and exciting.
Sometimes, just being in a rut is what’s bringing you down. Get your adrenaline pumping. Do something fun. Go on a spontaneous adventure. Run naked! (Just kidding, or am I?)
Have a nature fix.
Going outdoors, hugging-trees, feeling the soil in your feet will immediately boost your mood. Nature is the ultimate antidote.
Listen to a high-vibe playlist.
Create your own mixtape of high-vibe music that you can always go-to.
Helping someone can boost dopamine in your brain giving you the “helpers’ high” feeling. Not to mention, you also make the world a better place.
Pray and surrender.
Sometimes, you just really need to reconnect to the higher power and absorb his love to sweep your bad feelings away.
